Read and Deed Day

Today was Read and Deed day at shayna's school. they divided up the kids into color coded teams and shayna was on Green 3. She had to wear green, so I started referring to it as "green day." Here she is on our playground with skyler, wearing her green shirt:
you can see her new white flip flops here, which are an adult woman's size 6:

what was read and deed day you ask?
The whole point of the day was about reading and doing good deeds. It centered around a local author, Frank Murphy, who came in and they and they had 2 assemblies where he spoke to the students and read one of his books.
They also went to 3 different "stations" which were in different rooms.
The first was the Librarian reading a book about planting flowers. They made flowers out of napkins and made flower bookmarks. Good deed=making the world more beautiful.
The second was Miss Natter talking about old people (shayna's words) and she read books about the topic. Good deed=to appreciate and help old people. Note: they referred to them as "elders."
The third was Mrs. Brown talking about recycling. She read a book about it. They made recycle bags. This was Shayna's favorite of the 3. Good deed=recycling.
Shayna brought home the recyling bag and we are using it to put all the plastics, bottles, etc. and then when its full we transfer it to the big green recycling bin.
