Ask Uncle Mike

Every so often Shayna will ask me a very obscure question, something that maybe Douglas Adams or Da Vinci would think of. Since I have no idea how to answer, I have always told her to "ask your Uncle Mike."

So I decided to begin a series of posts called "ask Uncle Mike" whenever she comes up with these strange inquiries. It will be Mike's discretion whether or not to answer- or if anyone else wants to take a stab, be our guest!

Tonight's question is:

Why is laundry lint (on the lint screen) always purple?

The color of dryer lint is the combination of all the colors that deposited lint from that load of laundry. Among those items that generate lint, people tend to wear things that are blue, grey, and red. There are colors that make purple. This color is similar to the color your water turns after you have painted with a variety of different colors.

bonus note: bellybutton lint is essentially the same thing as dryer lint
