Nature in Boca

After school today we went to a few spots on A1A by the beach and intracoastal to walk, explore and enjoy nature..all in our home town, Boca Raton.

First stop was the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center. We walked on the boardwalk trail and took the path that goes to the Intracoastal Overlook. The boardwalk that goes in that direction off the main boardwalk path goes over the marshy area filled with water, and we looked down and saw little fish chased by big fish. After passing that, we reached the overlook area:

we had just enough time to look at 2 of the tanks at the nature center (closes at 4pm). we were able to ID some of the fish from our experiences snorkeling and fishing, and there was a man there who was able to tell us what every fish and creature in the tank was:

Next we went to Spanish River Park, which also has a path leading to the intracoastal. This park also goes to the beach as well, and is part of our 3 beach park area annual parking pass. There is a dock here with cleats, pavillion, grills, outdoor shower, etc. by the intracoastal, so good to know if out boating and need a pit stop. we were the only ones in the park. of course, a playground stop is a must. skyler likes climbing on the "noses"-- thats what he calls the thingies you step on to climb at the playground:

Last we stopped at the little park that is by Gumbo Limbo and the Oceanfront/Intracoastal municipal golf course. There is a cool looking modern pavillion on the water with picnic table and grills, benches and is set up for fishing...there are pole holders built in all along the front along the water! Its very pretty with huge palms all lined neatly along the edge by the water.

On the other side of the parking lot is the building for the golf course, so we went to check it out. Not a bad deal...the resident golf card is $20 for 2 years, and the cost for 18 holes walking is $5 or $11 with the drive cart...prices for the oceanfront golf course and the west boca course. we also noticed a nice bike path bordered by grass so not right on the road on A1A, we plan to bike and rollerblade there.
